About Taiwan

Renowned for centuries as Ilha Formosa (the Beautiful Island in Portuguese), Taiwan is a land with a plethora of natural wonders. From the reefs and oceanic ridges of Taiwan’s north coast to the towering coniferous forests and mountains of central Taiwan, the island has much to offer around every corner. In addition, the Taiwanese have transformed it into Asia’s most vibrant democracy and liberal society, with a free press (the freest in Asia), gender equality, and respect for human rights and, increasingly, animal rights.
